Apparently New Norfolk is one of the oldest settlements in Tasmania and with the Derwent River and valley and surrounding mountains I can understand why - it's magnificent. Then again almost all of Tasmania is beautiful. We loved New Norfolk so much that we moved there!
It only takes about 20 minutes to drive there [and the roads are excellent] from Glenorchy. Add another 12 minutes to get there from Hobart. Watch out for the wallabies [like small kangaroos] as there are plenty of them on the road at night and early morning.
